Leishrisk, Bridging Research and Leishmanianis Control

The idea to create a compilation of all available peer-reviewed literature on leishmaniasis epidemiology was first formulated in the context of the Leishmed project, as a collaboration between the WHO and the Leishmed consortium.  LeishRisk aims to further develop this concept together with the WHO and intends to expand on the Mediterranean data which was compiled during the Leishmed project.

The goal of the E-compendium is to:

  • compile global bibliographical data on leishmaniasis epidemiology from the past 25 years;
  • make this information available online;
  • create a user-friendly interface in an interactive mapping format;
  • allow for continuous updates based on feedback from the international leishmaniasis community.

A first version of the e-compendium, covering information on the Mediterranean area, was presented at the LeishRisk workshop.

Upon its launch on the 16th of january 2009, the e-compendium encompassed data on 60 endemic countries in the Mediterranean area, the Americas and the African continent.  During 2009 the presented information will gradually be broadened to include regions worldwide.  Click here for the official communique.
